Troubled cyclist Lance Armstrong has reportedly agreed to sit down with Oprah Winfrey for an exclusive interview.
Armstrong is expected to address allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs throughout his professional career. According to The Associated Press , the interview will be the first the cyclist has given following the release of the USADA report.
The interview is currently set to air on the OWN Network on January 17. It’s unknown if interview conducted at Armstrong’s home has already been taped.
The exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey arrives shortly after reports surfaced that Lance Armstrong had considered admitting the use of performance-enhancing drugs. Tim Herman, the cyclist’s attorney, denied that his client had contacted the USADA and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
“When, and if, Lance has something to say, there won’t be any secret about it,” Herman said.
Apparently Armstrong is ready to say something about the report that ultimately destroyed his career. However, it’s unclear what Lance will say on the subject or how forthcoming he will be on certain subjects. Countless individuals will certainly tune in to hear what he has to say.
CNN reports that the interview will be “no-holds-barred,” which means Oprah can ask the cyclist just about anything she wants. Folks who don’t subscribe to cable or don’t have the OWN Network in their market can tune into the interview on Oprah.com .
Since Armstrong has previously given sworn testimony that he did not use any performance-enhancing drugs during his career, it’s unknown if the cyclist will face any repercussions as a result of the interview. Should he open up and admit to doping, Armstrong could face perjury charges.
The athlete had his titles stripped away following the release of the USADA report . The ensuing controversy prompted the cyclist to step down from the Livestrong foundation, a charity he helped create following his struggle with cancer.
