Lady Gaga says there’s no sour grapes between herself and Miley Cyrus.
The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards featured a dozen fantastic performances by some of the most talented acts in music… and we’ll remember none of it because of Miley Cyrus’ raunchy duet with Robin Thicke.
Though many were expecting Lady Gaga to walk away with the night’s most buzz-worthy performance, she didn’t come close. But that’s okay, she tells The Guardian .
“It doesn’t bother me, though, that there was a lot of attention paid to any other performances, it’s not a competition. I do what I do and they do what they do.”
Lady Gaga adds, “Isn’t it nice that it all happened and that it’s all been recorded and we can watch it all – it’s not like the good things stay and everything else gets erased.”
The only thing that really has her irate these days is her critics who say her career is over because her new single, “Applause,” isn’t at the top of the Billboard charts .
“It’s literally not even been two weeks since my first single came out and it’s all, ‘She’s over’, or because I’m not No. 1 yet, ‘She’s finished’,” she says.
“People focus less on the music and focus more on how the music’s doing; how it’s faring from a numbers perspective, from a financial perspective. If you think I give a damn about money then you don’t know me as an artist at all.”
She admitted that she does feel persecuted, but at the same time, it hasn’t slowed her down.
“I certainly feel that at this time it’s almost as if people are surprised they haven’t already destroyed me,” she said.
