LA Dodgers rumors have manager Don Mattingly stating Jimmy Rollins will play over Corey Seager when he is ready. The Dodgers have benefited quite a bit from the numbers that Seager has put up since his promotion, but Mattingly appears set to go with his veteran shortstop for the postseason run. A report from CBS Sports reveals quotes from Mattingly that might just frustrate a few Dodgers fans.
“At this moment, we don’t have any plans. When Jimmy gets back, we plan on playing Jimmy. I don’t know what the chatter is or if there is chatter about Corey and that position or whatever. He’s going to be really good, and he is really good. At this point, with where we’re at and what’s going on, we don’t plan to change.”
Since getting called up to fill in for Jimmy Rollins, Corey Seager has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball. Though it is indeed a small sample size , it have given fans a lot of reasons to get excited about the 21-year-old infielder. In 10 games, he has gone 14-for-34 at the plate, with eight walks. That’s a.412 batting average, and.524 on-base percentage, going well with his 1.171 OPS already. Seager also has seven RBIs and eight runs scored in those 10 games.
What makes these LA Dodgers rumors questionable is that Jimmy Rollins has struggled a lot since coming to Los Angeles. In his first season with the Dodgers, Rollins has a.220 batting average and.279 on-base percentage. Those numbers are over 132 games, where he has also posted just a 60 percent stolen base rate. On defense, Rollins has nine errors, but he certainly has a veteran presence at shortstop. The chemistry with second baseman Chase Utley is very obvious, which could be something that Mattingly appreciates a lot.
With just 20 games left in the regular season, the Dodgers have a 7-and-one-half-game lead over the second place San Francisco Giants. The team is very close to clinching a spot in the postseason and looks to play the New York Mets when it does get started. That’s a match-up where runs will come at a premium, so having someone with as much postseason experience as Jimmy Rollins could prove to be an advantage over Corey Seager. If he struggles, though, there are going to be plenty of new LA Dodgers rumors about fans being upset with Don Mattingly’s choice.
