Leave it to a guy who once won an Olympic Gold Medal with a broken neck to never, ever give up. Despite the fact that he’s currently recovering from emergency surgery to alleviate a life-threatening condition — and despite the fact that he’s still one of the most prominent grapplers on TNA’s roster — Kurt Angle is still letting the world know that he wouldn’t mind one final run with WWE before he hangs up his boots for good. And what better way to go out than with a barnburner of a match against the man who many wrestling fans regard as the best in the business today, Daniel Bryan.
Sean Ross Sapp of WrestlingINC notes that Kurt Angle waxed philosophical about his dream match against Bryan via his personal website earlier today.
“Epic matches in the future? The first that comes to mind is Daniel Bryan. He is Shawn Michaels reborn. I would love to retire against a wrestler I believe has won over the hearts of millions of fans. How did he win their hearts? He’s that good. Give me 30 minutes with Daniel Bryan and I will give you the match of the century.”
This isn’t the first time that the 46-year-old veteran grappler has publicly indicated that he would like to finish his career in WWE. Earlier this year, Angle talked to Sports Illustrated about his efforts to get back on board with the monolithic wrestling company after his last contract with TNA ran its course. Angle indicated he had enjoyed a good relationship with Vince McMahon and that he thought that his history with the ‘E would grease the skids. But with Paul Levesque — aka Triple H — running the show these days, Angle didn’t find much interest emanating from the WWE camp.
“It blew my mind,” Angle told Sports Illustrated . “It was as if I was a nobody, that I wasn’t Kurt Angle. From a wrestling standpoint, they just weren’t interested … But I’m going to be straight with you. The WWE would have made more money this year if they would have signed me. That’s no secret.”
In the same SI interview, Angle suggested that he would have had “the best match of the year” in wrestling had he been afforded the chance to square off with Daniel Bryan.
As previously reported by Inquisitr , Kurt Angle was recently rushed into surgery after doctors discovered a substantial buildup of fluid on his spinal cord. The potentially lethal situation was believed to be a complication of previous surgery in which Kurt had a benign tumor removed from his neck. Angle is expected to out of action and on the mend for a few months. As for Daniel Bryan — who is also recovering from a spate of injuries — he recently told Fox Sports that he is awaiting medical clearance to return to the ring.
