Kristen Stewart is tackling a very different role in Peter Sattler’s upcoming drama Camp X-Ray . The first trailer for the flick recently started making the rounds online.
At this stage in the cinematic game, you’ve probably already made up your mind about Stewart. Either you find yourself looking forward to the actress’ latest endeavor, or you avoid them at all cost. While this writer typically falls into latter category, Camp X-Ray definitely looks stronger than most of Kristen’s work.
Here’s how Deadline describes the movie :
“A young soldier (Kristen Stewart) escapes her suffocating small town by joining the military, only to find that she isn’t going for a tour of duty in Iraq as she hoped. Instead, she’s sent to Guantanamo. Met with hatred and abuse from the Muslim men in her charge, she forges an odd friendship with a young man who has been imprisoned at Gitmo for eight years.”
Joining Stewart in the military drama are Lane Garrison, John Carroll Lynch, and Tara Holt. Interested parties can properly investigate the flick courtesy of IFC Films on October 28. Check out the recently-released trailer below.
During his recent chat with Marie Claire , writer-director Peter Sattler said he was “impressed” that Stewart decided to sign on for the flick. Fortunately for the filmmaker, Kristen apparently nailed the performance.
He explained to the website:
“Everything was living and dying on her face — it was a game of inches, not yards. What she responded to was choosing a role unlike anything she’s done before. She needs to find new territory, she needs to be hanging off a ledge. It takes a lot of courage to say, ‘I don’t care what people expect of me or what they think about me doing this role.’ It’s about how she wants to define herself, not how other people want to define her. She wants to grow, that’s what she’s about right now. She is incredibly creative — she totally needs to direct a movie, write a book, and start a band.”
Although Sattler thinks Kristen Stewart needs to take her career by the reins, the actress admitted that she doesn’t spend a lot of time worrying about what to do next. According to Stewart, she’s more than a little concerned about becoming a “bag of chips.”

Kristen told Elle magazine :
“Never at any point have I sat down and plotted how I should proceed from here on. As soon as you start thinking about your career as a trajectory — like, as if you’re going to miss out on some wave or momentum — then you’re never doing anything for yourself anyway. Then you’re truly, actually, specifically working for the public. You’re turning yourself into a bag of chips.”
