Kraft Recall 2014: Cottage Cheese Linked To One Illness

Published on: May 18, 2014 at 11:56 PM

The latest 2014 Kraft recall involves 1.2 million cases of cottage cheese that could potentially spoil and cause an illness.

In a related report by The Inquisitr , another Kraft recall involved string cheese that went bad and even changed color.

Kraft Foods Group says the latest recall occurred when their cottage cheese products were not properly stored in a California facility and may have exceeded safe temperature ranges. Production at the plants has been halted while officials work out a plan to resolve the storage issues.

The Kraft recall includes the Knudsen Cottage Cheese, Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese, Simply Kraft Cottage Cheese, and Daily Chef Cottage Cheese brands, but it’s also said to be precautionary and does not affect all of the products, only specific batches. But the company is investigating a complaint from a customer who says an illness resulted after eating cottage cheese that was not recalled and is now expired. None of the affected products were shipped outside the United States.

Reports on the Kraft recall detail how to discover whether your food is covered by the recall:

“Consumers can find the code date on the bottom of the cup or the top of the package. Simply Kraft products with a plant code of 36-2158 on the cups or a “W” in the case code (e.g., “W 21 JUL 2014”) are not affected. Simply Kraft products subject to the recall are only those with a plant code of 06-245 on the bottom of the cup and case code date without any “W” (e.g., “21 JUL 2014?).”

All of the products listed in the Kraft recall have code dates between May 9, 2014 and July 23, 2014. Customers are advised to return the cottage cheese to the store where they were purchased for a full refund . If customers have any questions, they may contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations at 1-800-396-6307 between 9 am and 6 pm EST.
