Kiefer Sutherland may have become a legend as Jack Bauer on Fox’s 24, but he’s had a prolific career even without the fame from that one hit series. Starring on a long list of films, good and bad, Kiefer has even realized his dream of working with his father, Donald Sutherland, in Forsaken.
Now, Kiefer is realizing another dream.
24 Star Kiefer Sutherland To Release His Debut Album And Hit The Concert Tour Circuit
This has been a long time in coming. Even before Sutherland joined with singer-songwriter Jude Cole to form their Ironworks recording label, Kiefer has toyed with the idea of recording his own unique sounds. It was the creation of Ironworks that really cemented the idea of pursuing his dream of becoming a recording artist for Kiefer, especially since Sutherland and his partner set up the record label as a way of assisting aspiring musicians, people just like the 24 star.
Next month, Kiefer will hit the road, touring his promotional concert for Down in a Hole , the debut album from the actor. The album will consist of 11 songs in the folk music genre, all written from the heart, relying heavily on Sutherland’s own life experiences.
“It’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to a journal or diary,” says Mr. Sutherland.
Kiefer seems far more introspective than he has in the past, as he discusses his inspiration for writing the songs on Down in a Hole . It’s as though the Forsaken actor finds music to be the perfect way to express a nostalgic voice that needs an outlet. What may have been a deeply personal and possibly private method of self-expression has turned into an artistic endeavor, which is how all art should begin.
“There is something very satisfying about being able to look back on my own life, good times and bad, and express those sentiments in music. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on.”
Some of Ironworks’ most successful artists include Lifehouse, Billy Boy on Poison, honeyhoney, and Rocco DeLuca and the Burden.
In 2009, Kiefer took a break from Ironworks to put more emphasis on his acting career, but he returned to the record label in 2015. Sutherland had written a couple of songs of his own of which he made demo recordings and played for Cole. Sutherland hoped an Ironworks recording artist might like the songs well enough to record and make their own, but, in the end, Kiefer chose to keep them for himself. Inspired, Kiefer went to work on developing enough songs for a full album and, before long, Down in a Hole became a reality.
