Katy Perry has been in somewhat of a career dilemma. It has always been expected that any new single she releases will immediately rise to the top of the charts. However, that hasn’t been the case with her latest single “Rise.” When Perry released the song last month, the Inquisitr reported that Perry’s song instantly rose to the top on iTunes. Rolling Stone was one of the many sources that gave “Rise” a positive review.
“Katy Perry unveiled her first new song in three years with ‘Rise,’ the singer’s theme for NBC’s broadcast of the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio…Produced by pop extraordinaire Max Martin, ‘Rise’ is a galvanic sequel to her 2013 smash hit ‘Roar.’”
Unfortunately, Katy Perry’s rise on the charts didn’t last long. One week later, the song fell fast down the iTunes chart and Katy Perry’s haters celebrated the fact the song wasn’t performing as well as expected. Billboard reported that the song officially made its debut at No. 11 , which is good for most pop stars, but Katy Perry isn’t like most pop stars. Perhaps Katy Perry thought that performing the song at the Democratic National Convention would help the single, but that wasn’t the case. According to Rolling Stone , Perry talked a little before the performance.
“Both of my parents are pastors, and staunch Republicans. I didn’t finish high school and unfortunately I don’t have a formal education but I do have an open mind and I have a voice,” Rolling Stone quoted Perry telling the audience before reminding them to vote for Hillary Clinton on November 8.
Then, Perry started singing her new song “Rise.” Perhaps there was a problem with the audio, and many agree that she was hard to understand when she sang. Others believe she was just having a bad night. But things got worse when she sang her 2013 hit “Roar.”
Twitter then went in for the kill.

On Friday, Katy Perry injected life into “Rise” by releasing a new video for the song. Billboard likes the new clip .
“Katy Perry released her fearless video for the 2016 Olympics anthem ‘Rise’ on Thursday (Aug. 4), showing the strength of an Olympian in the dramatic clip. The pop star definitely braves the elements in the video for the Rio theme song, traveling through desert rocks and waters and climbing walls to ‘Rise’ above, all while attempting to get her parachute going,” says columnist Lauren Craddock.
However, the Huffington Post had a front page article bashing Katy Perry’s new video.
“The music video simply finds Perry struggling to… rise… as she fights to break free from a chute that drags her harder than Taylor Swift did during the ‘1989’ era. Honestly, the only way to enjoy this mess is if you just imagine the parachute is the anthropomorphic embodiment of all things Swift.”
The reaction to the new video on Twitter has been mostly positive.

Whether you like Perry’s video or not, it has helped the song climb back to No. 9 on iTunes as of Saturday afternoon. With the Olympics starting in Rio this weekend, the song could easily be revived and — at least — put her back in the top ten.
Perry is certainly in a better position than Britney Spears, whose “Make Me” single has become a complete flop despite all the hype. Katy Perry’s new single, however, isn’t from her new album — one that is now expected to be released in 2017. Katy Perry has been taking a break from the music world, but she certainly hasn’t forgot about making music.
