Katy Perry ‘Testing Out Ideas’ For 2015 Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance

Rumors about who will headline the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show have finally come to an end. On Sunday, Katy Perry tweeted that she is “already started testing out ideas” for her performance during the 2015 NFL championship game on February 1.

Moments before the singer sent out her tweet, the NFL made it official, tweeting about Perry’s upcoming performance on at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The halftime show’s sponsor, Pepsi, released a commercial (above) starring Perry just minutes after Bob Costas announced on NBC that she will be headlining the show. Expect to see more commercials in the weeks leading up to Super Bowl 2015 and plenty of speculation about what will likely be a well-planned spectacle.

Perry, who puts on quite a show when she tours, may rival previous Super Bowl half-time performers including Madonna, Beyonce, and most recently, Bruno Mars, who received positive reviews for his performance in 2014.

Mashable reports that Katy Perry’s performance during the 2015 Super Bowl half-time show will “likely attract significant viewership” due to her “massive following” on social media.

Perry, who has a long list of award-winning songs including “Firework” and “California Gurl,” has more than 60 million followers on Twitter and 76 million fans on Facebook. That means even people who aren’t avid NFL fans will be tuning in to watch the half-time show just to see her perform.

Billboard reports that Katy Perry will have about 12 minutes to perform on stage during the halftime show, so she will have to “get selective” when it comes to picking out which of her hit singles she will incorporate into her performance.

The music magazine asked readers to vote for the five songs Perry “must play” during her Super Bowl extravaganza, and so far the results are not surprising. Out of the 17 songs Billboard posted in their survey, the top five with the most votes as of early Monday morning are “Firework,” “Roar,” “Dark Horse,” “Teenage Dream,” and “I Kissed a Girl.”

The NFL reports that the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 115 million viewers in the U.S. watched last season’s show that starred Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Will Katy Perry draw an even bigger audience when she performs at the halftime show on February 1? Time will tell, but with her strong social media following, there is no doubt that it will be as fun to watch as the Super Bowl commercials .
