Katy Perry Slammed By PETA Over ‘Roar’ Music Video

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has reportedly taken issue with the music video for the Katy Perry tune “Roar.”

The recently-released clip for the singer’s new single finds the songstress traipsing through the jungle after an airplane crash leaves her stranded. Although the music video is fairly harmless by design, the folks at PETA apparently feel the clip is cruel to animals.

According to Metro , PETA took issue with the use of exotic creatures in Katy Perry’s video for “Roar.” Spokeswoman Merrilee Burke explained that using animals as actors in this sort of production can cause the critters a great deal of unnecessary stress .

“Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods,” Burke recently told the Daily Star .

She added, “They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations.”

The PETA rep added that the organization Katy Perry and company used to keep an eye on the creatures has been under the watchful eye of the animal rights group. In other words, they may not have the critters’ best interest at heart.

“The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the ‘Roar’ video, has been inspected by the US Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001,” Burke explained.

Although PETA has shared their thoughts about the “Roar” video with the world, Katy Perry has yet to weigh in on the matter as of this writing.

After debuting on VEVO over a week ago, the clip for the singer’s latest tune has garnered around 62.3 million views. This number doesn’t include the unofficial videos uploaded to YouTube during that time.
