Kate Upton was allegedly furious with Terry Richardson for uploading the “Cat Daddy” viral video that helped to make her a star.
Photographer Terry Richardson released the clip online via his TerryRichardsonTV YouTube account on May 1, 2012.
Richardson directed the piece, and uploaded it alongside the simple description of, “Kate Upton demonstrates the Cat Daddy.” It immediately went viral, and has since been watched over 22 million times.
Since then, the 22-year-old Kate Upton has been the cover model for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues of 2012 and 2013, while she’s also appeared in the films The Three Stooges and The Other Woman.
But despite this success, Kate Upton has now admitted during her recent British Vogue cover story, via Jezebel , that she was furious with Richardson for uploading it without warning her.
Chung wrote in her piece, “Did she stand up to Richardson when she discovered it had gone viral? ‘Yes, I did. I was like, ‘That was disrespectful, you could have told me!’”
Upton believed that she was simply dancing for a minute in the skimpy bikini for fun, and she thought that the only people that would see it were at the photoshoot.
However Upton has admitted that she has now forgiven Richardson for uploading the video, as she told Chung, “Now, obviously, it’s fine.” Which is hardly surprising considering just how successful both the video and Upton’s career have been since the clip went viral.
Meanwhile Richardson also dismissed allegations that he was solely responsible for Kate Upton’s success, as he told Chung, “No. Kate was born a star.”
Despite his prolific career as a fashion and portrait photographer who has shot adverts for the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs, as well as for the magazines Rolling Stone, GQ, Vogue, i-D and Vice , Terry Richardson’s work has been marred by the constant accusations of sexual misconduct in his profession.
However Richardson has dismissed these allegations, and insists that he is both “considerate and respectful” of the individuals that he photographs.
