Kate Moss’ Playboy cover is confirmed. The supermodel will celebrate turning 40 by appearing on the cover in January 2014. The anniversary issue celebrates 60 years of the iconic magazine.
The cover was announced by Hugh Hefner’s son Cooper. On Tuesday, Cooper shared the information through his Twitter account. He promises fans “a great issue.”
Cooper’s announcement was confirmed by editorial director Jimmy Jellinek. As reported by Los Angeles Times , Kate Moss is best known for her work with Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar . Jellinek says the supermodel was an obvious choice for the anniversary issue:
“This is a massive global brand… You need a global icon… the biggest supermodel in the world on the cover of Playboy. She’s the perfect partner for us to help launch the next 60 years.”
The photos were shot by Marcus Pigott and Mert Atlas. Moss is featured wearing traditional Playboy accessories including French cuffs, silk stockings, and the iconic bunny ears.
With the exception of the accessories, Moss is pictured completely nude.
Hugh Hefner describes Moss as breaking through the division between “sexual imagery” and “upscale modeling.”
Moss appeared nude in numerous publications and advertisements including Love magazine, Vogue Brazil , and St. Tropez tanning. However, Playboy will be her first full-frontal exposure.
As reported by People , Kate Moss got her big break in 1992 with an ad for Calvin Klein jeans . By 1993, she was featured as one of People’s “Most Beautiful” women.
Despite her rising stardom, Moss was criticized for her “heroin chic” appearance. She defended her look, stating that she does not suffer from an eating disorder or drug addiction.
In 2007, Moss was honored as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for remaining on top throughout two decades of modeling.
Moss is not the first supermodel to grace the cover of Playboy . Previous issues featured Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Elle MacPherson.
Kate Moss will appear in the January/February 2014 double edition of Playboy . The anniversary issue will go on sale in January.
