A court in France ruled in favor of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge today about those disputed nude sunbathing photos of Kate Middleton that will prevent future publication in a French tabloid.
The Paris-area court granted the royal couple an injunction that orders Closer magazine to surrender all the topless photos of Kate Middleton in 24 hours or cough up a large fine.
ABC News has the details on the royal couple’s legal win:
Under the court order, Closer magazine, which first published the photos Friday of the Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing alongside husband Prince William at a private chateau while on vacation, must turn in all digital copies of the photos by noon Wednesday, must not print the photos further and will face a $12,000 fine each time it defies the ruling.
This is just one of several pending legal skirmishes about the Kate Middleton photos. In addition to an invasion of privacy civil claim, lawyers for the royal couple are pursing a criminal complaint in France against the photographer that snapped the intimate pictures. It remains to be seen if French prosecutors will decide to pursue criminal charges in this scandal.
The photos have already been published in the Irish Star and the Italian magazine Chi . The French court’s ruling only applies to Closer however. France has much stricter privacy laws than most other countries. UK tabloids have voluntarily declined to publish any of the photos.
