Justin Bieber diplomatically smoothed a potentially serious situation after one of his bodyguards was accused of insulting an elite Dubai police officer.
According to Dubai police, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 5, at the pop star’s second Believe tour concert at the Sevens Stadium.
During the concert, a male fan ran onstage and grabbed at Bieber while he was performing at a piano. A security team tackled the fan and removed him from the stage.
According to 7 Days , a Dubai police spokesperson said one of the 19-year-old’s bodyguards insulted a VIP protection police officer during the Sunday concert.
The allegedly insulted officer later officially reported the incident.
The police spokesperson added:
“Our officer didn’t reply but made a complaint at the police station. We asked the bodyguard to come later [to a police station] and he seriously apologized for his behavior and expressed his regret for what happened, claiming he was under pressure due to the concert.”
“The policeman accepted his apology and waived the complaint.”
Dubai police have reportedly refused to reveal the exact nature of the “insult,” but according to the Mirror , had the bodyguard’s apology not been accepted, a maximum penalty of a three-year jail term could have been levied.
The police spokesperson said Bieber personally contacted Dubai police to thank them for the bodyguard’s reprieve.
“Bieber expressed his appreciation for the policeman’s behavior, who acted in a civilized way even though the guard insulted the officer verbally,” they added.
Meanwhile, speeding fines incurred by the teen star during his stay in Dubai remain outstanding.
The Canadian teen — who was 90 minutes late onstage for his first concert and two hours for his second — triggered speed radars on Sheikh Zayed Road while driving a rented Lamborghini Aventador to his Sunday show.
“”We’ll get the fines from the rental company – they’ll collect it from the motorist,” said the police spokesperson.
Despite the fact that Bieber’s eventful Dubai visit touched off huge international coverage, the representative also offered this observation:
“He didn’t do something deserving this much commotion.”
Bieber’s Believe tour is currently in South Africa. After a widely praised Cape Town concert on Wednesday, he will next play Johannesburg’s FNB stadium on May 12.
