Ever since Justin Bieber released “Heartbreaker,” an emotional, slow jam that’s clearly about his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, a pile-up of possibly bogus quotes have filled the news cycle sending it into overdrive.
So it’s something of a relief to hear the Latina star bring a dose of reality to all the talk of imminent reunions and “relentless” pursuits . In a phone interview with Buffalo, N.Y., radio station KISS 98.5 while promoting the recently kicked off US leg of her Stars Dance tour, Gomez was asked for her reaction to “Heartbreaker.”

“Honestly, that what’s so beautiful though about music,” the 21-year-old told the two hosts, before specifically mentioning Justin. “Especially him, he’s super talented at being able to use what he feels and interpret that through music.”
Selena went on, “I mean, it’s what you do to grow as an artist. It’s what I’ve done and what many people do.”
Giving her final take on Bieber’s musical love letter, the Disney alum concluded, “So, it’s sweet.”
In response to one of the interviewers saying she hoped the actress-singer and Bieber would get back together — with a laugh — Selena ruefully said , “I get that a lot.”
Asked to put the likelihood of a reunion into betting terms, a note of steel entered Selena’s voice, when she replied ,
“You should bet for me to enjoy all the success that I have on my own and be independent and single until I know what I need to be doing with my life.”
Listening to the interview, Gomez didn’t sound as if she’s been refusing Bieber’s calls, at least not recently. Her references to her ex-beau sounded warm and unforced, although some may think a description of “Heartbreaker” as “sweet” indicates she hasn’t been swayed by his public gesture if a reunion is in fact what the heartthrob is looking for.
From her last comment about being single, independent, and needing to know her direction in life, Selena’s answer may suggest she and Justin are not necessarily a done deal — or a sure thing.
Having played her first US date on Thursday, the starlet’s tour wraps on November 26. Meanwhile, Justin is due to play his last Asia leg show on Oct. 12 in Macau, before hitting South America and Australasia. The Believe tour wraps December 8.
Bieber has just revealed the next release in his 10-week “Music Mondays” series is titled “All That Matters,” which may be another personal song like his first single “Heartbreaker.”
In a post-premiere Instagram , the Canadian singer said it was, “A song for people going through a heartbreak—like I was when I wrote it. It means so much to me to be able to share what I was, and still am going through, with my fans. I’m very proud of this song and I hope it gives my fans some insight into my heart.”
