Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lawrence, Miley Cyrus, and issue cover boy Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel are among the names who made the cut on Forbes magazine’s 2014 ’30 Under 30? list.
The publication’s comprehensive compilation describes the chosen as “the brightest stars” under the age of 30 who are “reinventing the world right now.” The list includes 15 different categories such as Hollywood & Entertainment, Music, Art & Style, Finance, Food & Drink, Tech, Sports, and other fields.
It’s not surprising to see Bieber return to the ’30 Under 30? list in its music category.
Despite an eventful 2013 which saw him charged for graffiti in Brazil, accused of anti-social conduct in his Calabasas, CA neighborhood, filmed in an expletive-filled spat with a British photog — according to Forbes the 19-year-old earned $113 million during the last two years from his now wrapped Believe world tour.
Bieber also earned through music royalties, brand deals, and investments in tech companies such as Enflick, Tinychat and Spotify .
The Canadian appeared on the Forbes’ cover last year, and picked up over 10 million more Twitter followers.
He also raised funds and contributed significantly to a number of charitable efforts last year. Bieber’s much-derided latest film, Believe , punched in just $5,963,482 at the US box office in 12 days, thought to be due to some fans and parents being turned off by the headline-making star.
Lawrence also returns to the ’30 under 30. The 23-year-old won a Best Actress gong from the Academy Awards for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook , overtaking Kristen Stewart to become one of the highest-earning actresses in Hollywood.
She reportedly earned $10 million from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. According to Forbes, as of June 2013 Jennifer pulled in over $26 million .
The popular star’s latest film American Hustle has been described as this year’s Argo. This past weekend the film’s cast which includes Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and is directed by David O. Russell, picked up the Ensemble Performance Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival . Lawrence will next grace the screens in X-Men: Days of Future Past in May.
Cyrus’ twerking antics appear to have done her no long-term, career harm at all. The singer killed off the ghost of her Disney Hannah Montana persona this year through a combination of twerking at this year’s VMA’s, rap cameo appearances, provocative drug soundbites in interviews, publicity-courting stunts, and habitually wearing very little with her tongue hanging out.
The 21-year-old shifted 270,000 copies of her album Bangerz in its opening week, and released a documentary Miley: The Movement in October which attempted to explain the “strategic hot mess” approach to her successful career.
Other notable entries joining Bieber and Cyrus in the music category include, New Zealand teen Lorde, Canadian rapper Drake, Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar, One Direction, Rihanna, and Billboard’s 2013 end-of-year artist of year, Bruno Mars.
Olivia Wilde , Anna Kendrick, Lena Dunham, Rebel Wilson, and child actress Quvenzhané Wallis were among those who made the cut in the Hollywood and Entertainment section.
