Justin Bieber has had many things thrown at him on stage over the years. Phones, toys, bras — even boos. But at his Newark, New Jersey concert on Tuesday, the pop prince found a novel storage place for an iPhone that came his way.
While chatting to fans during an interlude between Out Of Town Girl and his acoustic set, the 19-year-old became visibly irritated as fan-thrown objects hit him on stage.
“I don’t need a bandana honestly,” a leather-clad Bieber told the 20,000-strong crowd as one went whizzing past .
“Can we please refrain from throwing things on stage please? Thank you,” the Canadian drawled with tone.
Ignoring the pop star, some of the screaming tweens and teens carried on lobbing miscellaneous stuff, prompting Bieber to tell one thrower:
“You guys know what refrain means? No, no. Refrain means don’t throw. That’s what that means.”
Without doubt, it was a testy few minutes from the teen star.
But, to be fair, if you don’t know what’s being thrown at you while standing on a stage in front of blinding, hot lights until it hits, it’s probably not only irritating — but scary.
After a couple more instructions from Bieber asking fans to stop throwing objects, the iPhone made an appearance.
“She’s throwing a phone, look at this,” the singer quipped, lightening the mood and walking over to the device.”I say don’t throw stuff on stage and this is what… they throw phones.”
Then, with a priceless look on his face, Bieber shoved the iPhone down his drop-crotch pants and joked: “You know what? I do need a new iPhone.”
Cue immense screams.
In the video above, one female attendee can be clearly heard hyperventilating ”OMG! OMG!” in a voice that sounds like Mariah Carey hooked up to laughing gas. It was a very funny moment.
Last November, when he played Madison Square Garden a similar iPhone episode happened and can be seen just below.
In other Bieber news, he has just been cleared completely by Los Angeles authorities of an alleged hit and run of a paparazzo that took place in June outside the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood.
The L.A. District Attorney’s Office decided the paparazzi swarming of Bieber’s white Ferrari and the resulting chaos, meant the singer’s claim that he left the scene without knowing he’d hit someone was reasonable.
Meanwhile, at his second Newark show on Wednesday, the singer was presented with the Recording Industry Association of America’s Diamond Award in recognition of his 2010 hit “Baby’s” new status as the highest certified digital single in US music history.
After the show, Bieber and his security were seen making their way back to his New York City hotel with the pop star sporting a V for Vendetta mask.
Previous masks of choice for the heartthrob have included a gas mask worn during the London leg of his Believe tour, a Chanel ski mask, and a metallic gold mask in Venice Beach, Calif. We’re not going to try and psyche that lot, but maybe it’s an easy solution to having a camera or autograph request shoved in his face 24/7?
Currently steaming through his North American dates, Bieber plays Brooklyn’s Barclays Center this Friday.
