Justin Bieber didn’t just bring the honesty when he hit up The Ellen DeGeneres Show for the second time in a week to explain his recent apology video.
He also brought the laughs in various comic scenarios with the host, which all bodes well for the Biebs’ upcoming Comedy Central Roast.
Nutshelled, Ellen and Justin scare some unsuspecting audience guests in a bathroom stall during one sketch, and it’s properly funny.
The premise? Members of the public freak out when they walk in on the duo pretending to make out, play instruments and sing Bieber songs, death stare the intruders and generally do creepy things in a bathroom stall.
The whole thing is hilarious, not least because of the reactions of the fooled studio guests.
Take a gander below.
In another scenario, Justin gets his grind on during a break in the show taping, and starts dancing with random girls in the audience to TLC’s “Scrubs.”
Again, it’s very funny, and we’re pretty positive he even twerks at one point.
For your consideration.
Next, a game of Humdinger with a prize of two tickets to this weekend’s Grammys for one audience member who had to guess the songs hummed by Justin and Ellen.
It’s mildly funny, but the bathroom stall sketch is reason-to-get-up-in-the-morning hilarity.
In fact, Bieber’s appearance on Ellen was like a flashback to the singer’s days of old when he was basically a one-man jester in sound checks , concerts, talk shows and on tour .
It’s refreshing to see the singer showing off his lighter side, as the caricature of the “Bad Boy Biebs” has definitely worn out its welcome.
And Bieber clearly agrees. After his first appearance on Ellen last week, the singer posted a confessional/apology video, in which he called some of his past behavior “arrogant” and “conceited.” He also said he now wanted “to make the best impression on people.”
His second turn on the show comes after some media reports suggested his apologies were more PR than substantive.
However, Bieber’s decision to return to Ellen suggests he’s keen to draw a line under his troubles, and wants to move on while letting the world know he has changed.
This time around, Ellen asked why he had been “so nervous” during last week’s interview and his reason’s for posting the apology video.
Justin replied, “Well. It was the first time I was television for a long time. I just was worried about what people were thinking about me. Like I said last time, I did a lot of things over the past few years that I’m not proud of.”
“But, yeah, I was just nervous to be in front of people again, and talk in front of them,” he added, while moving his arms like a robot to suggest the look of someone stiffening up out of nerves.
Elaborating, he said, “I thought I just looked really extra nervous and I kinda just wanted to explain myself.”
The comedienne-host said she understood, then added that people seem to find it hard to imagine celebrities get nervous. It was implied in that moment that when someone famous then does say they’re nervous, they are not believed.
In a lengthy answer, Justin replied, “Well, I am a human. Right?”
He went on to say, “People often forget that, even with their comments and stuff they think it doesn’t get to me. But, it gets to me. You know things that people say bothers me and I gotta be strong enough to just keep it pushing.”
He added, “But, yeah, that’s why I just wanted to make a video to just let people know that I’m human … I’m passionate… I’m passionate about being better and growing.”
Justin finished, “So I think that this is going to be an awesome chapter in my life and I’m so glad that I have you guys supporting me.”
All good stuff. Going forward, Bieber’s desire to show he’s dropped unhelpful behavior and can laugh at himself may win round more people than even late night soliloquies.
