Joss Whedon Supports Ben Affleck’s Casting As Batman

Ben Affleck got a big name coming out and voicing his support on his casting as Batman in Zack Snyder’s new Superman vs. Batman movie which is the sequel to Man Of Steel, Joss Whedon approves of the choice.

Whedon has a lot of weight when it comes to the comic world since he is the writer for hits such as The Avengers series. He also wrote the screenplay for the upcoming TV show Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Many agree that Warner Bros. probably didn’t expect the kind of negativity that Affleck’s announcement as Batman has generated in social media.

The backlash is real. There is even a “remove Ben Affleck as Batman petition” that already has 25,000 signatures at Change.org in which Jon Roden, its creator, states that Affleck doesn’t have the skills, nor the presence to play Batman.

Roden has softened his stance a bit, after presumably getting criticism of his own for starting the petition. There is an update on the page, which states in part,

“I would like to add that this petition was not meant in any way to harm Ben Affleck or his career. I respect Affleck’s work, I just feel he is inappropriate for the role.”

As to Joss Whedon, he took to Twitter to voice his support of Ben Affleck as Batman.

That should bring some comfort to those who are voicing their disappointment. Whedon is a well respected name in showbiz, especially in the Marvel world after his success with The Avengers , so it has some weight, right?

We can expect word from other supporters such as George Clooney who is a close friend of Afflek coming sometime soon.

The Inquisitr reported that Affleck is already getting ready for the role working out two hours a day to get that buff body required to play Batman/Bruce Wayne .

As to the suggestion that the studio would somehow listen to the cries for Affleck to be removed from the role, it is highly unlikely. The ink has been dried in that contract and Ben Affleck will be Batman against Henry Cavill’s Superman , whether we like it or not.
