Late in 2012, we reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s turn in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises could result in his own series as Batman. Well, it looks like there might be other plans in the comic universe for Gordon-Levitt. The Avengers may be calling for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who up until now was being baited for the cape crusader role in the inevitable Warner Bros. remake of Batman.
According to Deadline.com , Joseph Gordon-Levitt is next in line with a handful of actors to play Peter Quill in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy film. Gordon-Levitt is said to join the ranks of Jim Sturgess, Eddie Redmayne (who just lost out on the role of Harry Osbourn), Lee Pace, Zachary Levi, and Joel Edgerton. It looks like the studio isn’t set on an age group as of yet. Either way, Joe has some competition.
According to an earlier report by Variety , both Sturgess and Levi are going head to head for the role in the Avengers film. It’s unknown whether or not that has changed since Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s name got tossed into the race for Peter Quill.
If Gordon-Levitt wins out on the role, it’s a big win for Marvel, who will be causing a mighty conflict for the DC Comics world. The role of Batman will probably go to someone else given the direct competition, and the demanding schedule The Avengers will undoubtedly have for Gordon-Levitt.
The film, Guardians of the Galaxy, is said to by directed by James Gunn and focuses on a group of superheros who will fight to save mankind. In the series, Quill is half-human, half-alien and will probably be featured in more Marvel sequels if the film does well.
What role would you rather see Joseph Gordon-Levitt in? Batman or Peter Quill?
