John McAfee Is Running For President

John McAfee is running for president. The eccentric computer software millionaire just announced he is throwing his hat in the ring for the Oval Office. McAfee said he will base his 2016 presidential bid on campaign privacy rights.

McAfee said he has created the Cyber Party and submitted the documents necessary to run for president to the Federal Elections Commission, CNN Money reports.

“I have a huge underground following on the web,” John McAfee said. “I promise you I will win because I have the votes. We are losing privacy at an alarming rate — we have none left. We’ve given up so much for the illusion of security and our government is simply dysfunctional.”

The computer virus software creator was arrested in Tennessee last month for allegedly driving under the influence and illegal gun possession, the Daily Mail reports. McAfee said he was under the influence of prescription Xanax but was not aware taking the medication would impair his ability to drive. He also noted that the gun in the vehicle was legally owned, and his only crime was driving while under the influence — which he steadfastly maintained was an accident.

While McAfee was once well known for his computer prowess, in recent years reports about alleged bizarre behavior have made headlines. The tech security software creator was once worth more than $100 million.

He is currently still wanted for questioning in Belize in relation to the death of his neighbor, Gregory Faull. McAfee quickly left the country after contending that Belize officials were only attempting to put him behind bars because he possessed information about government corruption. When he crossed the border in Guatemala McAfee was arrested for entering the country illegally and deported back to the United States.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr , John McAfee said he does not have any information to share about his neighbor’s murder. He told Wired’s Joshua Davis that he was in his home when the Faull shooting occurred. According to the antivirus software creator, he only heard a gunshot and knows nothing at all about the murder.

“I thought maybe they were coming for me. They mistook him for me. They got the wrong house. They killed him. It spooked me out,” McAfee said. “Under no circumstances am I going to willingly talk to the police in this country. You can say I’m paranoid about it but they will kill me, there is no question. They’ve been trying to get me for months. They want to silence me. Bad trip or worst trip ever? I will not turn myself in. The police have set up roadblocks across the country to catch me.”
