Is Jim Carrey set to play Carnage in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2? According to someone close to the flick, the comedian will make an appearance in the upcoming sequel.

Keep in mind that this particular rumor seems to have been started by an individual whose “family” worked on the production . Since that is akin to starting a conservation with “My cousin knows this guy,” it’s best to hold any excitement until Webb, Carrey, or Sony makes an official announcement.

Jim Carrey was reportedly spotted on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 last March. However, very little information about his involvement with the picture was available at the time. While the insider claims the Kick-Ass 2 star is in the movie, it’s currently unclear who he will play.

However, many folks seem to believe that Carrey will portray an inmate at the Ravencroft Institute insane asylum known as Cletus Kasady. This is the guy who will eventually become Carnage, though it’s unknown if this transformation will take place in Marc Webb’s sequel. However, he might be setting the stage for part three or part four.

Jim Carrey’s involvement in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may not be as far fetched as some people might believe. Rumor has it that the former In Living Color cast member was slated to play the character when filmmaker Sam Raimi was trying to get Spider-Man 4 up and running.

If all of this Carnage talk has you in the mood for a story featuring the violent villain, then perhaps you should pick up a copy of Superior Carnage. The new comic book series was written by MAD and Robot Chicken scribe. Kevin Shinick. Judging from some of the reviews out there, the story is kind of hit and miss .

Director Marc Webb’s sequel stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone , Jamie Foxx, Sally Field, Paul Giamatti, and Dane DeHaan. The film arrives in theaters on May 2, 2014.
