Jessica Lange has joined Paramount’s remake of The Gambler.
Paramount is developing the remake with the original producers, Robert Chartoff and Irwin Winkler. The original 1974 film, which is loosely based on the short novel of the same name by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, starred James Caan, Lauren Hutton, and Paul Sorvino. Caan was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his role as Axel Freed, a New York City English professor with a gambling addiction.
The two-time Oscar winner joins Mark Walhberg and Brie Larson in the Rupert Wyatt-directed film.
Jessica Lange recently earned Golden Globe, Satellite, and SAG Award nominations for her role as Supreme witch Fiona Goode in American Horror Story: Coven . She took home four awards for the first season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s horror anthology: a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film, a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, a Satellite Award for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series, and a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.
Jessica Lange recently revealed that the fourth season of American Horror Story would be her last .
“I am coming to the end of acting,” the Cloquet, Minnesota, native said. “I have a list: another stage production, maybe one or two more movies, one more season of ‘American Horror Story,’ and then that is it for me. Because I think that’s enough. I want to go out with a bang, or should I say, a scare?”
Still, the 64-year-old said she was grateful for how American Horror Story revitalized her career.
“It reenergized me; it reenergized my career,” Lange said. “There’s no shame in recognizing that. It’s exposed me to a whole new generation, which is a little strange. I’m not used to young people thinking I’m cool.”
