Jessa Duggar (now Seewald) and husband Ben did not share their first kiss during the wedding ceremony. Instead, the couple decided they wanted the special moment to take place in private.
People Magazine reports that more than 1,000 guests were in attendance for Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald’s big day. However, those in attendance did not get to see the couple share their first kiss during the wedding ceremony. Instead the pair opted to kiss for the first time ever in privacy.
However, the crowd still got to see a pair of Duggars kiss. Jim Bob and Michelle did the honors for the couple and locked lips for the crowd.
Pastor Mike Schadt introduced them as Mr. and Mrs. Seewald, but then told the crowd that the couple would not be having their first kiss during the ceremony.
“They wanted their very first kiss ever to be in private. It was important to the both of them.”
He then spoke to the crowd for several minutes about the couple’s decision and asked Jessa’s parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar to show the wedding crowd a kiss in their place. He then announced, “So, now you’ve seen a Duggar kiss.”
Though the crowd didn’t get to see the couple’s FIRST kiss, they did get to see the couple share several kisses during the wedding reception. After the ceremony was over, the couple retreated for some privacy and then returned to the reception with guests. During the reception, People reports the couple could be seen sharing multiple sweet kisses.
A kiss wasn’t the only thing missing from the wedding. The couple did not have a traditional wedding cake at their reception. Jessa said she didn’t really like cake so instead the couple opted for a sundae bar. Ben had mint chocolate chip ice cream and Jessa had chocolate during the reception.
“I don’t really like cake. We wanted ice cream sundaes instead.”
US Weekly also notes that Jessa did not choose a traditional white wedding gown but instead opted for a blush/beige colored gown. You can see a photo of the gown below that Jessa posted to her Facebook page .
Jessa’s wedding was in stark contrast to sister Jill Dillard’s wedding which had all the traditional aspects such as a kiss, white gown and cake.
