Jenni Rivera, an American born Mexican-American singer-songwriter, died tragically in a plane crash December 9th, 2012, a year ago today.
After Rivera’s performance at Monterrey Arena, the singer boarded a private Learjet which, according to the transportation ministry , “took off from Monterrey at 3:15 a.m. and lost contact with air traffic controllers about 60 miles away”. No survivors were found as search parties scoured the mountains of the crash site for clues to the tragedy. Two pilots and five passengers, including Jenni Rivera perished in the crash.
Many fans were in shock and disbelief when they heard the news and some sources even suggested it was a conspiracy or a hoax. Sadly, the news was true, but the exact details of the crash were shrouded in mystery.
A year later, new information is available about the possible causes of the fateful events of December 9th, 2012.
CNN reported that according to findings of the Mexican Aviation Investigation Agency (DGAC), “the 78-year-old pilot was too old for the license he was given by Mexican authorities, and the 43-year-old Learjet was flying unevenly and shaking when it reached cruising speed”. Additionally, negligence was also cited as another factor when the DGAC revealed “the aircraft operator did not allow notes in the logs about failures detected by the crew as when the aircraft flew out of alignment and vibrated when it reached cruising altitude.”
Rivera was buried at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, California. She is mourned by family and fans, but the events of her amazing life have not been forgotten.
