Is ‘Crimson Peak’ Star Charlie Hunnam Going To Reprise His Role As Jax Teller In ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Prequel?

Is Charlie Hunnam going to star in a Sons of Anarchy prequel? That is the question that many fans of the hit FX biker show have been asking themselves since the series ended after seven seasons in December, 2014.

The rumored prequel would supposedly tell the story of Jax’s dad, John Teller. Throughout Sons , John Teller’s death and what he wanted for SAMCRO influenced Jax and made him want a better life for his kids than he was given.

Charlie Hunnam recently sent the rumor mill into overdrive when he spoke to Men’s Journal about Kurt Sutter’s plans for the prequel, which is rumored to have Brad Pitt attached as John.

“He’s [Kurt Sutter] trying to do a prequel, which I would love to see. Kurt is trying to get it going… I’m not sure when it would happen though, he’s got another TV show he’s working on. I don’t know if he needs me as a lead actor on that, too.”

The other TV show may, in fact, keep Sons creator Kurt Sutter quite busy for sometime. Sutter’s latest project, The Bastard Executioner, was just picked up by FX for the fall of 2015. The show focuses on a 14th century knight and also stars Sutter’s wife and Sons alum Katey Sagal.

Although a prequel may not be in the works anytime soon, this is not the first time that Hunnam made it very clear that playing Jax Teller for seven seasons had a profound effect on his life. He even dropped out of playing Christian Grey in the blockbuster Fifty Shades of Grey because of what it took out of him to play Jax.

“I was going to finish playing a psychopath who’d just lost his wife [in Sons of Anarchy ] and five days later I’d be on set playing Christian Grey,” Hunnam stated in an interview with Men’s Health . “I was like, ‘This is going to be a f**king disaster.’ It was the opposite of how I’ve tried to ground my career, not stretch myself too thin, and always do my homework.”

Even without Fifty Shades , Hunnam’s movie career is in full swing. You can catch Charlie Hunnam in Crimson Peak this October, Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur in July, 2016, and in Pacific Rim 2 in August, 2017.
