This past week, Hubspot’s Inbound 2015 conference was held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts and welcomed a range of keynote lecturers and comedians to entertain over 14,000 business professionals from across the globe. Aziz Ansari and Amy Schumer were both present at the conference and were very well received by attendees. On Thursday September 10, Aziz Ansari delivered a keynote presentation on his latest book Modern Romance, which was published earlier this year in June. Aziz Ansari spoke about his experiences researching for the new book, and the differences between various cultures in relation to the search for romance. During his talk, Aziz Ansari also read a passage from his book , which seems to perfectly summarize what his goals were when writing it. He states,
“Every one of us engages on a journey to find love and companionship. We meet people, date, get into and out of relationships, all with hope of finding someone with whom we share a deep connection and trul love. This journey seems fairly standard now, but it’s wildly different from what people did even just decades ago…. Some of our problems are unique to our time. ‘Why did this guy just text me an emoji of a pizza?’ ‘Should I go out with this girl even though she listed Combos as one of her favorite snack foods? Combos!!?”
Sara Castellanos, a writer for the Boston Business Journal who also attended the Inbound conference describes the five lessons that startups and business people can take away from Aziz’s dating struggles.
That evening at the Inbound conference, Amy Schumer was also present and delivered a hilarious, albeit raunchy, stand-up routine to the Inbound crowd of marketers and technology professionals. Shumer also managed to nearly polish off an entire bottle of red wine during her hour set. According to the comedian, in an average week she has approximately “36 alcoholic drinks,” and so one bottle of wine is hardly much for her. During her routine, she briefly touched upon her upcoming movie that she is working on with Jennifer Lawrence, and the exciting process that it has been.
Some of the other speakers at the Inbound conference in addition to Aziz Ansari, included New York Times best-selling author Daniel Pink who gave an excellent keynote on the nature of selling. #Girlboss Sophia Amurosa was also present and told Inbound attendees the story of her vintage clothing line, Nasty Gal . Buzzfeed founder Jonah Peretti was also present, and talked about social, shareable content. Each speaker at the Inbound conference delivered advice based off of their personal experiences and struggles within their professional endeavours, as has been summed up in the infographic below. It was certainly an exciting conference, and Inbound has already opened up registration for their next conference, Inbound 16, which will take place in November 2016.
