Iggy Azalea isn’t too concerned about the beef that’s allegedly brewing between her and fellow rapper Nicki Minaj.
Depending on which overzealous Twitter user you choose to believe, the “Starship” rapper’s comments at the recent BET Awards were directly aimed at Iggy. Apparently some people believe that Azalea doesn’t write her own lyrics, something that’s kind of frowned upon by other rappers. Since Nicki didn’t mention the Australian rapper by name, folks had to read between the lines a bit to figure things out.
The New York Daily News reports that Iggy Azalea isn’t spending a lot of her free time sweating the comments her adversary may or may not have made at the event. In fact, she doesn’t seem too upset about the situation at all.
Azalea recently explained:
“I have to say the general explosion of pettiness online in the last few days is hard to ignore & honestly… lame. If I had won the BET award that would’ve been great but it wasn’t my year & I don’t mind — so you shouldn’t either. Generally speaking, I’m unbothered by anything that ‘happened’ at the BET awards and just feel worn out by everyone trying to make me have wars with people all the time.”
The rapper continued:
“Anyone who wishes me well is welcome in my life & those who don’t can’t get any more of my time… I hate to see everyone exhausting themselves on my behalf over things that I’m still not 100% sure even exist & don’t matter. Just let it go.”
While some people believe Minaj was acting like a major jerk during the BET Awards, the rapper recently revealed that she didn’t throw any shade at Iggy Azalea. According to Hollywood Life , the entire situation was completely blown out of proportion .
Minaj explained the matter on Twitter:
“The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us! I believe we’re smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I’ve been saying this for 5 YEARS.”
Nicki added:
“I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of ‘Fancy,’ publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud. That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that.”
What do you think about the beef between Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj? Are people making a big deal about absolutely nothing?
