“Black Widow” rapper Iggy Azalea won her very first music award last night at the American Music Awards Show. The Australian rapper beat out the king of rap Eminem for Best Rap/Hip Hop Album.

Azalea was the night’s lead nominee with six, which included artist of the year. She performed her hit “Fancy,” which is nominated for single of the year. Azalea took to the stage with her friend T.I. and gave a brief, but emotional speech.

“This award is the first award I’ve ever won in my entire life, and means so much to me that it is for best hip-hop, because that’s what inspired me to move to American and pursue my dreams. It’s what helped me when I was a teenager to escape and to get through my life and to better times. It means so much that I can stand here against Eminem and Drake and come out with this,” Azalea said.

It was interesting, to say the least, that Azalea chose to mention Eminem in her acceptance speech. Of late, Eminem has waged a pretty one-sided war on Azalea. He even threatened to rape her in the lyrics to his song “Vegas,” People reports

“I’m bored of the old men threatening young women as entertainment trend and much more interested in the young women getting $ trend. zzzz,” Azalea said in response to Eminem’s song.

Azalea looked glamorous in black, and won an award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop star later in the night. The 24-year-old beauty from Australia won favorite rap/hip-hop album for her debut, The New Classic .

Azalea thanked her close friend T.I. for believing in her. Later in the show, T.I. paid tribute to Azalea saying that women do have a place in hip hop.

“Women can run hip hop, I came to that conclusion when my little sister, the most nominated artist won,” T.I. said when he introduced Azalea for her performance at Hollywood’s Nokia Theater.

Azalea performed a medley of her hits “Fancy” and “Beg For It.” She began her performance in a buttoned up, sparkling power suit, but during the performance, took it off to reveal a skin tight bodysuit. Azalea was surrounded by a group of handsome male dancers.

British singer/songwriter Charli XCX joined Azalea on stage for her performance.

Thousands of angry music fans took to Twitter furious that Azalea had defeated Eminem, reports the Mirror .

Their anger, however, takes nothing from Azalea’s achievements. The Australian has paved a new roadway of success for women in the hip hop business.
