Well kids, the final episode of How I Met Your Mother is finally being aired tonight. By the end of the episode we will finally see the moment we’ve been waiting for throughout the show’s nine season run. After being teased for years, and dragged through an entire season that took place at Barney and Robin’s wedding, tonight Ted (Josh Radnor) will meet the mother. The mother, played wonderfully by Cristin Milioti, is a woman who we as audience members have been introduced to bit by bit throughout the sitcom’s last season.
Although we know that Ted meets the mother at the Farhampton train station, there are still some surprises to unfold during the hour-long series finale. Star of How I Met Your Mother , Josh Radnor, sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly Radio on SiriusXM to tease out what we can expect.
For Radnor it’s all about the voyage in telling the story , and that voyage, which has spanned 30-years in the lives of these characters, will be wrapped up:
“It’s probably the most far reaching finale in terms of years it covers. We go from 2005 to 2030 or 2035. It’s a 30-year voyage all over time and space with these characters.”
Although Radnor couldn’t give too much away he did admit that How I Met Your Mother wouldn’t miss its signature touch in tonight’s series finale.
“Whatever people have loved and responded to with the show, it’s all there in the finale. I watched it last week and I thought it was amazing and it made me feel really proud to be part of such a great show.”
Unfortunately fans of Jason Segel won’t be too happy to find out that Segel missed all of the celebratory moments between the cast after they wrapped the series finale. In order to accommodate for Segel’s busy schedule the series finale had to be stretched for two weeks in March.
Segel has been on location filming James Ponsoldt’s latest film titled End of the Tour . In the film Segel plays the late novelist David Foster Wallace, which sees the How I Met Your Mother actor embarking on a road trip opposite Jesse Eisenberg who plays a journalist.
In order to represent Segel in his absence, the cast and crew of How I Met Your Mother brought out Marshpillow, which is a body pillow with Segel’s face taped to its head. The pillow was used in the beginning of the season to address Marshall’s absence. While Marshall was stuck in route trying to get to Robin and Barney’s wedding on time, the actor was wrapping up his latest comedy Sex Tape with co-star Cameron Diaz.
Now that we have a vague idea of the tone the series finale of How I Met Your Mother will take on, what do you think will be the best way to wrap up the series?
