How Far Does ‘Bachelorette’ Star Grant Kemp Make It With JoJo? ‘Bachelor In Paradise’ Gig Next On His Agenda?

Published on: May 30, 2016 at 12:31 PM

Bachelorette contestant Grant Kemp made it through the first round of eliminations on last week’s season premiere, one of 20 guys who JoJo Fletcher liked enough to keep around for another week. Will the California firefighter’s charm and good looks take him far this season, or will JoJo find out he may be there for the wrong reasons and send him home?

[Warning: Bachelorette Season 12 spoilers ahead]

Grant is a firefighter in real life so, it wasn’t a big surprise when ABC recently revealed that he is one of 10 men who go on the first group date of the season — a boot camp-style competition at a firefighting training facility in the Los Angeles area.

Grant’s career gives him a bit of an unfair advantage against the other nine men on the date. Spoilers indicate that he wins the competition, but that doesn’t mean he walks away with the group date rose. Reality Steve reveals that radio show host Wells Adams scores the rose, leaving Grant up for possible elimination at the Week 2 rose ceremony.

Host Chris Harrison has mixed feelings about Grant’s ability to win the final rose, revealing to Yahoo TV that the 27-year-old California resident recently broke off a long-term relationship, and it may be “too soon” for him to find love again.

However, Grant may not be as interested in finding love as he is in finding fame, something that may have played into JoJo’s decision to send him home on an upcoming episode. Spoilers point to Grant and nine other guys making it to Episode 5 in Uruguay, where he will be one of two guys who get a one-way ticket back to the U.S.

However, it’s not the last fans will see of Grant. Despite being called out by his ex-girlfriend’s best friend for dumping her to go on The Bachelorette , Reality Steve states that he is on the list of guys from JoJo’s season who will more than likely be part of the Bachelor in Paradise cast this summer.

Oddly enough, Grant told JoJo on the season premiere that he wasn’t going to “do what Ben did” and “fall in love with two girls.” What he didn’t tell her was that his breakup with his long-time girlfriend, Jen Green, came just days before he signed a contract to become part of the Bachelorette Season 12 cast — and she apparently knew nothing about it until after he left to film the show.

In an email written to Reality Steve , Erin Aschow, a woman who states she is Jen’s best friend, revealed that Grant met Jen — a reality show producer — in 2014. After spending two years in a serious relationship with frequent conversations about marriage, Grant apparently broke off their relationship over the phone while she was out of town.

“At the very end of January, Grant abruptly broke up with Jen – OVER THE PHONE while she was out of town filming another show. He gave little to no information as to why they were breaking up and canceled a trip to see her to speak about it in person. He just left her in the dark.”

Jen’s friend goes on to say that Grant “met all the Bachelor producers” last summer while Jen was working with them producing another reality TV show.

“Prior to February, Grant had a normal instagram and fb page (covered in photos of him and Jen), but he deleted it once he got on the show,” Erin writes in the email to Reality Steve . “I hope he’s happy with the sacrifice he made to fulfill his lifelong aspiration in life: gaining more Instagram followers!”

Not only did Erin call Grant out in a letter to Steve, she plastered the information about Grant on Twitter during the May 23 Bachelorette premiere, something Grant seemed to shrug off by tweeting back that he ended the relationship before going on the show.

“…@GrantMKemp was in a serious, long term relationship with a friend of mine. A beautiful, smart, witty, kind and all around fabulous woman. He applied to be on #TheBachelorette when they were dating and broke up with her (no explanation/shut off his phone) to chase fame on TV. This awesome girl is actually a producer on Reality TV (girl boss) and introduced him to the producers, who he sneakily went through to get on the show… that Roman Numeral tattoo on his arm is the flight # he met the amazing girl on… Even if you don’t watch the show, let’s all rally together and NOT support such despicable behavior…”

Oh, the drama! Grant seems to be unaffected by the negativity coming his way. The negative attention may propel him into being a controversial contestant on Bachelor in Paradise . If he makes the cut, he will head to a tropical destination in early June to start filming alongside some of his buddies from JoJo’s season of the Bachelorette .

The Bachelorette airs on Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Stay tuned for the third season of Bachelor in Paradise , which is set to premiere on August 2, just one day after JoJo hands out her final rose.
