Former Playboy Playmate Holly Madison has announced that she will be eating her placenta after she delivers her baby daughter.
“This might sound gross, but I’m totally planning on having my placenta turned into pills I can take after giving birth,” Madison wrote Wednesday on her personal blog . “I heard it helps women recover faster and I want to recover as quickly as I can!”
It’s not like Madison is going to slap the placenta on a plate, squeeze some lemon juice on it, and devour it Hannibal Lecter style, though. She’ll have it dried and ground up into pill form, which she’ll take daily over the long haul. Sounds weird, and, yes, it kind of is, but she’s not alone in the trend.
Back in March 2012, Mad Men actress January Jones revealed that she planned to consume her placenta in pill form after welcoming her son, Xander.
Jones talked a little bit about how a mother’s consumption of placenta is supposed to work in a recent interview with Britain’s Glamour.
“It’s a very civilized thing that can help women with depression or fatigue,” Jones said. “I was never depressed or sad or down after the baby was born, so I’d highly suggest it to any pregnant woman.”
According to AllieIsWired , 33-year-old Holly Madison is expecting her first child with her 38-year-old boyfriend Pasquale Rotella. The baby is due March 5.
