A jury convicted Alfred “Terry” Everette for the murder of a New Orleans pastor in 2006. And the woman that the prosecution says ordered the hit is due on trial sometime in 2015. According to Nola , Alfred “Terry” Everette, of Mississippi, was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Pastor Ernest Smith. Authorities say that the pastor’s wife, Emma Raines, agreed to pay Everette $100,000 for the hit.
The case is like something out of a movie. Pastor Ernest Smith’s death is one of three dead men who were connected to Emma Raines. Raines has not been convicted in any of the deaths as of now. The prosecution asserts that Emma Raines hired hitman Terry Everette to murder Smith outside his home in New Orleans back in 2006.
Court records show that Everett waited for the clergyman to arrive at his home at 11:30 p.m. As the victim tried to walk toward his front door, Everette got out of his vehicle and shot the man in the torso two times. The fallen pastor tried to make it inside his house, where Emma Raines was waiting, but he dropped dead before he could reach help.
Police say she most likely witnessed the man’s shooting death and called a friend, instead of calling 911. Back then, the case did not garner much media attention, and quickly went cold. According to the Miami Herald , no one else witnessed the shooting because his home was one of the few houses that survived hurricane Katrina, leaving few neighbors.
The case broke wide open in 2011, after family members say Alfred “Terry” Everette told them that he killed the pastor all those years ago at the request of Emma Raines. Everette’s family demanded answers from Everette because they were suspicious of Emma Raines.
Here is a list of victims that are connected to Emma Raines, whom police and prosecutors call the “black widow.”
Leroy Evans: Emma Raines’ first husband, who died while choking after his feeding tube was mysteriously removed.
Pastor Ernest Smith: Emma Raines’ second husband, who died outside his home in New Orleans.
James Raines: Emma Raines’ third husband, who died in his home while Emma Raines was out of town. James Raines was secretly dating Emma when she was a pastor’s wife.
Emma Raines never paid the money to convicted killer Alfred “Terry” Everette, but allowed him to live in her lavish home that she paid for with the insurance payout she received for Ernest Smith’s death.
Prosecutors say that is how Emma Raines made her living by killing the men in her life and collecting the insurance money. The case is similar to African-American black widow Josephine Gray. Last month, Inquisitr reported on the case of Japanese black widow Chisako Kakehi.
