Hillary Clinton’s approval rating has nosedived to 2008 levels according to a new bipartisan poll about the presumed Democrat frontrunner for the 2016 presidential nomination.
Polling data this far out is seldom indicative of the final result, however, especially when anything can happen over the next couple of years. New, previously little-known candidates can also emerge on the national scene.
As you may have noticed, the “objective” mainstream media is already fully on board the Hillary bandwagon (the hoopla surrounding Chelsea Clinton’s pregnancy is one of many examples) despite her vote as a senator in favor of the Iraq War. Ironically, big media journalist somewhat abruptly threw Mrs. Clinton under the rhetorical bus (or the wagon) in 2008 in favor of then-Sen. Barack Obama. That being said, most media outlets will line up behind whichever Democrat gets the 2016 nomination (as they did in 2008 and 2012 and in previous cycles).
The downtown in Clinton’s popularity based a random phone sample of about 1,000 registered voters this past week, however, is hardly good news for her expected candidacy. “The Fox News poll, from Democratic pollster Anderson Robbins Research and GOP pollster Shaw & Company, shows Clinton’s favorable rating dropping to 49 percent, compared to 45 percent unfavorable. The last time her numbers were in that ballpark was during the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race. After she ended her campaign, her favorable/unfavorable split was 47/46. Other polls have shown Clinton’s numbers — which were stellar during her time as secretary of state — steadily dropping since she left her post last year.”
In an interview , former President Jimmy Carter raised questions Hillary Clinton’s tenure as US Secretary of State. “… when Secretary Clinton was Secretary of State, she took very little action to bring about peace. It was only John Kerry’s coming into office that reinitiated all these very important and crucial issues,” Carter said.
Hillary Clinton herself struggled to identify any signature accomplishments as Secretary of State during a recent public appearance. She has yet to fully discuss her role in the Benghazi controversy when terrorists murdered four Americans at the American embassy compound and no rescue team was deployed.
Clinton supporters at a recent Democrat convention also encountered difficulties articulating her actual accomplishments during her tenure at the State Department.
Separately, a wealthy Hillary Clinton fundraiser pleaded guilty yesterday to campaign finance violations. He will be sentenced on July 31 and could face up to six years behind bars.
Setting aside Hillary Clinton’s popularity rating, do you think the big media would be as excited about the possibility of the first woman president if the candidate was Sarah Palin, Condi Rice , Gov. Susana Martinez, or another Republican?
