Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is slated to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray this summer.
The action-horror hybrid served as the English-language debut for the Dead Snow director. The film followed the title characters as they attempted to rid the world of hideous monsters and dangerous creatures.
Although it was shredded by critics — the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score is perched at 15 percent — the movie still managed to make a decent amount of money during its theatrical run. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters ended up generating around $54 million at the domestic box office.
The $50 million action flick fared a little better in foreign markets. Wirkola’s endeavor managed to earn around $156 million when all was said and done. The international total has prompted the folks at Paramount to green light a sequel .
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will arrive on DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray this June. However, fans of the movie who want to check out the unrated version of the movie will have to splurge on the Blu-ray editions. The DVD edition will only contain the theatrical cut of the flick.
The Blu-ray version also comes with a handful of behind-the-scenes features. These are also exclusive to high-definition edition of the release.
Paramount Pictures describes the movie as follows:
“After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches … their past.”
In addition to Renner and Arterton, the movie also stars Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Derek Mears, and Thomas Mann. It’s unclear who will return for the proposed sequel.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray beginning June 11. Did you catch Tommy Wirkola’s action-horror flick in theaters earlier this year?
