The latest installment of the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise could be on the way sooner than fans expected. There have been rumors about its release in the past , but according to Ecumenical News , the release date for GTA V was confirmed to be later this year for both XBox One and Playstation 4.
The exact release date has not yet been publicized by the developer, Rockstar Games, but industry insiders have admitted that GTA V will be available before the end of the year. Most of the confirmation happened via Twitter conversations. In one instance, Gamepur quoted an industry insider, Shinobi602, who claimed that Rockstar Games definitely has a big game coming out before 2015. It wasn’t explicitly identified as GTA V, but fans suspect it can’t be anything else. The tweet has since been removed, but it once said, “No idea mate. Though they do have a game set for this year, I’d imagine [GTA V] to be it.”
According to the International Digital Times , the official release date of GTA V for XBox One and PS4 will probably be announced at the upcoming E3 gaming convention. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take Two Interactive, recently said in a financial recap that he is “very excited about what [Rockstar Games] have in store for next-gen systems,” which would indicate the XBox One and PS4. At the very least, he promised that Rockstar Games will release a next-generation game before the end of the fiscal year, which is March 2015.
A source told Dual Shockers that Rockstar Games will be making a big announcement at E3 for Sony (the company behind the PS4); “our source followed up to clarify that he’s actually not 100% sure if Rockstar will actually be on stage or Sony will just announce the next generation Grand Theft Auto V on their behalf.”
This doesn’t mean GTA V will only be made available for the PS4, though. GTA games have traditionally been released for both Playstation and Xbox at the same time.
The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of GTA V were released last September and the PC version and next-gen console versions have been anticipated ever since. Console versions of GTA V will hopefully support HD format and downloadable content. According to ChristianPost , some photos were leaked that could depict future weapons available through GTA V DLC. The weapons include a MG/AR, Pistol, Scar and a knife. The items are expected to be part of the Heists DLC that will be made available in the near future.
What do you think? Are these reliable sources? And will you be picking up GTA V for the consoles when it does finally come out?
