The hearts of Grey’s Anatomy fans broke following Episode 1 of Season 13 after it became clear that Dr. Alex Karev may be facing time behind bars. Alex Karev (played by Justin Chambers) was hauled off in the first episode of Season 13 after he assaulted Andrew DeLuca (played by Giacomo Gianniotti). Andrew DeLuca ended up suffering a serious eye injury following the assault. Digital Spy reports Alex Karev may be facing at least 15 years in jail for assaulting DeLuca .

Alex Karev is one of the few cast members that have been with Grey’s Anatomy since the first season of the show. He is often listed as one of the most attractive men from the show. So, how have fans taken the idea of Alex Karev from Grey’s Anatomy being locked up in Season 13? Not very well.

With the prospect of extensive jail time for assault DeLuca, many fans have started to speculate that Karev may be written out of the show altogether. Is this the exit story for the beloved Karev? It didn’t take fans long to take to social media and express how unhappy they would be if Alex Karev gets written out of the show. Many Grey’s Anatomy fans even threatened to stop watching the show altogether if the decision was made to write Alex out of the show in Season 13. These fans argued that removing Karev would be killing the show.
Some Grey’s Anatomy fans took to Twitter following Episode 1 of Season 13 in full caps lock to express how unhappy they were with the course of things.

Some Grey’s Anatomy fans, however, managed to take to Twitter to express how unhappy they were with the idea of Alex going to jail and possibly being written out of the show without using cap locks.

Dr. Alex Karev has been with Grey’s Anatomy since the very first episode in 2005. Initially, Alex wasn’t a character that everyone who watched the show enjoyed. He was mean, selfish, and didn’t appear to care about anyone but himself. As the plot line of the show progressed, however, Alex grew up and became one of the most beloved characters in the show. If you were among the few who didn’t like this character from the beginning, he grew on you. For that reason, it isn’t too surprising to learn that a large portion of the Grey’s Anatomy fan base is threatening to stop watching the show if Alex leaves.
So, the big question is – will Grey’s Anatomy fans be forced to say goodbye to Alex Karev? A short video of Shonda Rhimes addressing concerns about Alex Karev in Season 13 was posted on Twitter:

In the video, Shonda makes it clear that this is Alex Karev we are talking about here. He is a huge part of what makes Grey’s Anatomy . She reassures fans that the character Alex Karev has nowhere to go. She even asks the fans “Where would Karev go?” So, while fans can still be upset that Alex is facing jail time, it doesn’t appear as if he’s being written out of the show.
