The long awaited Godzilla trailer has crept out of the oceans depths to terrorize audiences anew, ready to reboot its way to theaters in mid 2014. Check out the trailer below.
This Godzilla trailer features a voice over from theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the men considered the Father of the Atomic Bomb for his contributions to The Manhattan Project. It’s paraphrased from his remarks about the first atomic bomb test , recalling the Bhagavad Gita .
“We knew the world would not be the same. A few people cried; most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture the ‘Bhagavad Gita’: Vishnu takes on his multi-armed form and says, ‘Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.’”
It’s the type of high-concept treatment Godzilla fans have been waiting for with an approach to filmmaking, and especially apt considering Godzilla’s origin is widely treated as nuclear in origin, a product of Bobby’s Little Boy. Add to that the obvious metaphor that the Godzilla monster is the bomb , the unthinkable destructive power mankind has unleashed.
One puzzlement from this latest Godzilla project is the relative unknown to whom the project was given, director Gareth Edwards . He must have absolutely killed it in the meeting with such a sparse resume. Screenplay writer Max Borenstein is also somewhat of a filmmaking greenhorn. Now, fellow writers Dave Callaham (The Expendables) and Frank Darabont are names we can get behind and certainly anyone watching the Godzilla trailer will know David S. Goyer’s work.
Godzilla fans who need more than just a trailer can head to MutoResearch.net for some interactive fun. Access the classified information as thunder crashes and a Geiger counter ominously licks in the background. Be warned, that shadowy organization undoubtedly tied to Godzilla will know you’re interfacing with their network, and you will be branded a subversive hacker. There’s not much going on yet, but Godzilla fans can rest assured that now that the trailer has hit, business will start picking up at M.U.T.O.
