In the wake of Cory Monteith’s death , there were many questions surrounding the future of Glee . Many fans had questions about the show’s future without its pivotal character Finn Hudson. Now we have breaking news from Fox that there is indeed a plan in place. The fifth season will go on and will air on the new date of September 26.

Although it may suffer a little bit of retooling because of the loss, this is a far cry from the November date we first started hearing about days after Monteith’s passing. On Glee’s official Facebook page , 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company made a joint statement.

The companies have decided to delay the start of production of Glee until early August. “Season Five of GLEE will now premiere on Thursday, Sept. 26 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. No further details are available at this time.”

The announcement continues:

“Monteith played loveable FINN HUDSON, the star quarterback of McKinley High who became a leader of glee club New Directions. Outside of GLEE, Monteith worked closely with several charitable organizations, devoted to helping people effect positive change in their lives. In honor of his passing, the following groups will be accepting donations in his name.”

There’s still no word on whether Monteith’s co-star and girlfriend Lea Michele will return, but we’re thinking this quick move and the early production start has a lot to do with Lea possibly going forward with Glee .

Days following Cory’s death, it was said that the writers have held an impromptu meeting to decide how to go forward with the show. While no official details concerning the retooling episodes has been released, a source close to production told HollywoodLife.com that they may use old footage of Monteith left on the cutting room floor to “soften the blow” of his absence, in order to transition to the loss.

This decision is being made with Cory Monteith’s family, and Lea Michele in mind. The source continued:

“The producers are weighing what the cast and his family think of the idea, and of course Lea Michele, to see if it’s at all plausible to attempt. Regardless, they want to do any angle with dignity.”

Glee’s original start of production for season five was set for July 22.
