An eight-foot-tall statue of a giant Lego man washed ashore in Japan on Wednesday. The giant Lego man was wearing blue pants and a red shirt with the logo “No Real Than You Are.” The mysterious Lego statue was discovered by surfer Tatsuya Hirata on Yuigahama beach, in Kamakura, Japan, approximately 35 miles south of Tokyo.

Who is responsible for the giant Lego man? According to the Huffington Post , the Dutch street artist and sculptor Ego Leonard is the source of the Lego man. His name was on the back of the Lego shirt.

While most of the sightings of the Lego men have occurred in the Western hemisphere, there are no clear patterns to where they will show up. Japan is the fourth location of a beached giant Lego man.

Other sightings of Lego men have occurred previously in Zandvoort in The Netherlands in 2007, Brighton, England in 2008, and Sarasota, Florida in 2011, as reported by Canada Journal . This “Giant Ego” statue appears wherever the artist hosts an exhibit. It is suspected that he also creates the giant statues.

An example of another Lego from 2012 is below.

Leonard certainly has a fondness for Lego people, as evidenced by some of his recent artwork for an upcoming exhibit at the Moniker Art Fair London. The Dutch artist posted these examples to his Twitter page in October.

The various sightings are a shocker to surfers and beach goers, as previously reported by the Inquisitr . The statues may be in protest of big corporations, such as Shell that is depicted in Leonard’s latest paintings. The Inquisitr quoted from his website a paragraph in the words of a giant Lego man.

“Lately however, my world has been flooded with fortune-hunters and people drunk with power.”

Whatever the reason behind their creation, the giant Lego man in Japan is just one of many of the statues that have spread surprise and joy to the discoverers.
