Geraldo Rivera Mulling Run For Senate

Journalist and Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera claims he is considering running for US Senate from New Jersey.

Rivera, the former ABC and NBC correspondent and syndicated television host, revealed his intentions on his radio show (did you even know that he had a radio show?) today according to Politico and also solicited feedback on Twitter:

“I mention this only briefly, fasten your seat belt…. I mentioned this only briefly to my wife … but I am and I’ve been in touch with some people in the Republican Party in New Jersey. I am truly contemplating running for Senate against Frank Lautenberg or Cory Booker.

“I’m not going to drill this out, because obviously I’ve got commitments to Fox and to here at the radio program and I’m really having a great time. But I figure at my age, if I’m going to do it I’ve got to do it. And there doesn’t seem to be any Republicans ready to work against or run against Corey Booker, the popular Newark mayor.”

Although GOP Gov. Chris Christie is cruising to a landslide re-election, Rivera would face an uphill battle in the Garden State as the Republican standard bearer according to CBS News :

“The 89-year-old Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., hasn’t said yet whether he will run for reelection next year, but Booker, also a Democrat, is already exploring a bid for the Senate seat. Democrats are likely to hold onto the seat in the blue state, regardless of whether Lautenberg or Booker runs as the party’s nominee.”

What surprises you more — that the Geraldo is now pushing 70 or that he is a Republican? Do you think he will actually go for it or is this just idle talk?
