George Zimmerman smashed an iPad containing video of a possible attack against his wife and her father, a Florida police officer has said.
Zimmerman is accused by his wife Shellie of threatening her and her father with a gun and punching her father in an incident this week. Zimmerman and his estranged wife are in the midst of divorcing.
In a 911 call, Shellie is heard saying: “He’s in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun, and he’s saying, ‘Step closer.’ He’s just threatening all of us with his firearm… I don’t know what he’s capable of. I’m really, really scared.”
Shellie says she made video of the incident on an iPad, but George broke it to pieces. Officer Zach Hudson of the Lake Mary (Florida) Police Department confirmed her account.
“That iPad is in half a dozen pieces at this point,” Hudson told The Huffington Post . He added that the device was sent to a lab where technicians will attempt to extract video of the incident.
Until the video is recovered, Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell said there isn’t enough evidence to arrest Zimmerman.
Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’Mara denies that George threatened anyone with a gun.
“He acted appropriately. He never took the weapon out,” O’Mara said of the incident. “The only thing he really did, which is what he told the police, was on the outside of his shirt, he made sure the gun wasn’t moving anywhere and didn’t do anything because Mr. Dean [Zimmerman’s father-in-law] was sort of coming at him, that can sort of be seen in the video.”
Shellie and George Zimmerman are in the midst of a divorce that has turned bitter. Shellie has reportedly claimed that George went “AWOL” after his acquittal in the Trayvon Martin case. She also claimed that George had an affair with an ex-fiancee.
