George Lucas isn’t officially involved with the upcoming Star Wars sequels, but this isn’t stopping him from putting in his two cents on the matter.
The mastermind behind the beloved franchise reportedly hand-picked Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams to tackle the upcoming sequel Star Wars: Episode VII . Although he doesn’t have a horse in that race any longer, this isn’t stopping Lucas from chatting with the filmmaker on a regular basis.
George Lucas’ son Jett recently told Flicks and the City that his father is still involved with the Star Wars movies . Lucas may have sold Lucasfilm to the folks at Disney, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t interested in helping out with the new films.
“He’s constantly talking to J.J. Obviously J.J. was handpicked. He is there to guide, whenever, he’ll help where he can. At the same time, he wants to let it go and become its new generation,” Jett Lucas explained.
According to his son, George Lucas had a pretty tough time letting go of the Star Wars franchise. He even had a few outlines written for future films in the long-running franchise. However, it’s unclear if he’s shared any these ideas with Abrams.
In addition to discussing his father’s involvement with Abrams’ Episode VII , Jett Lucas discussed rumors that Star Trek Into Darkness and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch would play a major role in the upcoming Star Wars flick.
He explained:
“There’s been rumors which I thought were pretty crazy. That some of the actors from ‘Star Trek’ were going to play in ‘Star Wars,’ which I know would never happen. I don’t know if I would be so thrilled. I think that would be the beginning of the apocalypse if you were to cross ‘Star Trek’ with ‘Star Wars.’ I think that’s a dangerous combination. Again, it would be interesting. It’s an idea to explore if anything.”
