George H.W. Bush Still Hospitalized, May Not Go Home For Christmas

George H.W. Bush remains hospitalized a month after he was first admitted, and the Houston Methodist Hospital has said he may not make it home for Christmas. Bush has been in the hospital dealing with bronchial and respiratory problems, and, while he is in stable condition, the hospital stated there is no release day set for the former president. The Detroit Free Press reports that hospital spokesman George Kovacik stated:

“President Bush remains in stable condition in the hospital. His doctors feel that he should build up his energy before going home. They remain optimistic about his full recovery and are being extra cautious with his care.”

Former President Bush was hospitalized on November 23 when he displayed bronchitis-related symptoms including a bad cough. Since that time, The Clarion-Ledger notes that Bush has been receiving physical therapy to help him increase his strength. On Thursday, George H. W. Bush’s spokesman Jim McGrath stated on Thursday that the former president could be released in time for Christmas. From what it appears now, however, that prospect seems unlikely since Kovacik added in the statement, “No discharge date has been set at this time.” George H. W. Bush is the 41st president of the US and is a Republican, like his son. He took office in 1989 and served one term. He has also been a congressman, UN ambassador, and CIA director and was Ronald Reagan’s vice president for both terms. His son, former President George W. Bush, also served two terms in the White House.
