George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are getting closer to their wedding day. As the clock ticks down to the nuptials in Venice, said to take place on September 29th or the weekend before, guests are presumably prepping for the event. They are also running out of time to buy a wedding gift. With a couple as accomplished as Clooney and Alamuddin, the appropriate gift might be hard to find.
It is a dilemma that has not escaped Clooney’s parents. CTV News reported today that Clooney’s mother Nina still is not sure what to get the happy couple, but she has some ideas.
“I haven’t got them a wedding present yet because we haven’t decided what to get, or if they would prefer some kind of donation.”
Since Alamuddin is a noted human rights lawyer and Clooney is known for being politically active, the donation option seems appropriate. Presumably, the pair would have little use for traditional wedding gifts such as china, a gravy boat, or linens.
As for Nina’s feelings about her son making it official with Alamuddin, she does not hide her enthusiasm. Quoted in Grazie and reported by CTV , Nina expressed as much joy about the wedding location as the actual ceremony.
“It is in Venice at the end of this month. We are just thrilled. We have been to Venice before and it is the most romantic place. It will be lovely to see George get married.”
Clooney’s previous marriage to Talia Balsam lasted four years from 1989 to 1993. He has been “the eternal bachelor” since that time.
Clooney has a close relationship with his parents. His father Nick is a journalist and the brother of legendary performer Rosemary Clooney. Rosemary’s son Gabriel Ferrer is married to Debby Boone , noted Christian pop singer and the daughter of Pat Boone.
Alamuddin also comes from a family of accomplished people. As the Daily Mail reported earlier this year, her mother is the foreign editor of a prominent newspaper and a frequent television commentator on Middle Eastern issues. Her father, Ramzi, is the former Vice President of the University of Beirut and was a university professor.
According to reports that came out yesterday, it is Alamuddin’s family who are footing most of the bill for the wedding. They also reportedly wanted a fall wedding and a short engagement, according to Us Magazine .
The wedding is set to be small in number, with just 60 guests. Andrea Bocelli is set to serenade Alamuddin and Clooney when they marry.
