George Clooney Boosting Security At Home After Death Threats Against Amal Clooney

Hollywood actor George Clooney is being forced to increase the security on the couple’s U.K. home after his high-profile human rights lawyer wife, Amal Clooney, was targeted by death threats.

Amal Clooney, 38, is currently representing the jailed former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Rasheed, and in the process is receiving many disturbing messages threatening her life and making George extremely worried about her safety.

According to a report by Fox11 Eyewitness News , from Clooney’s viewpoint his wife’s safety is his number one security issue, and he is extremely serious about increasing the number of cameras around the Clooney home in the U.K. in an effort to prevent any unwanted and deadly attacks.

International Business Times quotes a South Oxfordshire district councilor, Paul Harrison, as saying he has been in negotiation with George and Amal Clooney , after their plans to place cameras around their Berkshire home were initially denied.

Harrison told the media recently, “Security isn’t so much for him but for her,” adding that from George Clooney’s point of view, “the high-level legal work she does and the death threats she gets, it’s quite serious.”

Speaking of Amal’s high-profile client, Mohamed Nasheed became the first democratically-elected president of the Maldives back in 2008. However, despite being democratically elected, four years down the line, Nasheed claimed he was ousted at gunpoint and said in a television address at the time, “It will be better for the country in the current situation if I resign. I don’t want to run the country with an iron fist. I am resigning.”

Nasheed was then sentenced to 13 years imprisonment in 2015 on charges relating to anti-terror laws in the country, but the United Nations condemned his trial, saying it was “deeply flawed.” A U.N. tribunal later ruled in favor of Nasheed, pronouncing his detention as illegal.

The former Maldives president’s jail sentence was then commuted to house arrest, but in August last year, and in a surprise move, police suddenly took Nasheed back to prison, leading to fresh criticism from the U.N. Despite being under house arrest, Nasheed was allowed to visit the U.K. earlier this year for spinal surgery.

In seems the concerns of George Clooney are valid indeed, as on top of his wife receiving death threats in messages, Amal’s co-counsel, Mahfooz Saeed, was stabbed in the head outside his hotel in Male in the Maldives in September last year, just before they were due to visit Nasheed in a Maafushi jail.

However, as reported by International Business Times , the fact that the Clooneys want to mount security cameras on tall poles around their property was initially causing problems with both neighbors and the authorities, and the plans were initially rejected due to a “potential infringement of the privacy of neighboring properties.”

However, since then the coverage of the security cameras has reportedly been reduced from 19.7 feet to 9.8 feet, a change that locals are apparently more than happy to accept.

In other recent news relating to George Clooney, female fans were most likely disappointed to hear the Hollywood hunk is considering giving up acting and getting more involved in directing films. According to George, no one wants to see someone aging on film, though many female fans objected, saying he actually looks better every year.

Relating to the current lead up to the U.S. presidential elections, as reported by Vanity Fair , Clooney has recently made it clear that Republican contender Donald Trump is a “ xenophobic fascist. ” He also said that, while he “really loves” Bernie Sanders for the top job, he will be supporting Hillary Clinton .
