Country music icon Garth Brooks recently stopped by The View . In his appearance on the popular daytime talk show, Brooks talked warmly and openly about his family life, his marriage to fellow country star Trisha Yearwood, and his musical comeback.

Brooks, who first burst onto the scene with his self-titled debut album all the way back in 1989, has permanently left his mark on the genre of country music. He is known for recording classic songs such as “Friends In Low Places,” “Shameless,” “What She’s Doing Now,” “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” “Unanswered Prayers,” “The Thunder Rolls,” and many, many others. Rick Gershman of LifeZette describes Brooks’ style of country music as being “strongly influenced by pop and rock.”

According to Broadway World , data from the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) shows that Brooks is the best-selling solo artist in the history of the country , having sold more than 138 million albums. Broadway World further mentions how Brooks has now become the first ever artist to receive seven Diamond Awards, meaning that he has had seven albums that have sold more than 10 million copies apiece.

In Brooks’ appearance on The View, Whoopi Goldberg recalls when Brooks first announced that he would be retiring to spend more time with his family back in the year 2000. Though Brooks did indeed take a break, a couple of new songs still appeared.

A handful of years after he announced his retirement, Brooks released a popular song called “Good Ride Cowboy.” In an interview with CMT, Brooks acknowledged the song was a tribute to his friend and fellow country artist Chris LeDoux, who passed away in 2005. A couple of years later, a new song that was entitled “More Than A Memory” appeared on his Ultimate Hits album and went on to become a chart-topping single.

Also in his appearance on The View, Brooks talked about his decision to spend time with his children and wife Trisha Yearwood. He described it as “the greatest thing to ever happen,” and he also said that “there is nothing that beats being a parent.” Brooks was also asked about the key to his marriage to Yearwood, who he has been happily married to since 2005. He spoke of both the love and humor that exists in their marriage and went through some of Yearwood’s qualities that he truly seems to adore.

With his children now college age, Brooks, 54, began his great musical comeback two years ago. In 2014, he launched The Garth Brooks World Tour with Yearwood and released an album called Man Against Machine.

The year 2016 has certainly been one to remember for Brooks. He was rewarded with the Entertainer of the Year award at the 50th Annual CMAs, marking the fifth time in his career that he had received the award.

According to Broadway World, he is the only artist to ever receive the award five times. He admitted in his interview on The View that it was a surprise to receive the award yet again.

“I was very surprised,” Brooks told The View. “ Awards are for young people.”

Brooks also showed thanks to the music industry for being so gracious to him in his return. He later spoke to The View about his new album, which is titled Gunslinger. Brooks’ Gunslinger album is scheduled to hit stores on Friday, November 25.

Brooks has yet another album that is in stores now as well. It is a Christmas album he recorded with Yearwood, which is called Christmas Together. The album has a song that is entitled “What I’m Thankful For” and features the legendary James Taylor, which was also discussed on The View. According to Billboard, the album was quick to fly off of shelves shortly after becoming available .

“In its first week, it sold 21,000 copies, according to Nielsen Music. On the all-genre, consumption-based Billboard 200, the LP starts at No. 11, while dashing onto Top Holiday Albums at No. 2.”

After having so much success already, Garth Brooks’ appearance on The View confirms that he is still going strong. Though 2016 will be a hard year to top, it will be very interesting to see how his new albums do and what else the future may provide for the country legend.
