‘Game Of Thrones’ Spoilers: Unlikely Alliances And The Return Of The White Walkers

Game of Thrones has been surrounded by controversy the last few weeks, between the notorious rape scene and complaints of poor writing, but according to fans who have seen tonight’s episode in advance, the hugely popular series gets back on track tonight. And for those Game of Thrones fans who also watch The Walking Dead , Game of Thrones is going to give you your Sunday night walker fix while Rick and the gang are on hiatus. Major spoilers for tonight’s episode follow.

Speaking of the notorious rape, Sansa (Sophie Turner) has been beaten down particularly hard the last several episodes of Game of Thrones , and indeed, for most of the series. Tonight, she will get a little more good news from Theon/Reek (Alfie Allen) after learning last week that her half-brother, Jon Snow ( Kit Harington ), is in charge of the Night’s Watch.

Sansa also gets a little payback for Reek’s horrible betrayal of her last week. Sure, Reek has been tortured and lives in fear of Ramsay (Iwan Rheon), so one could understand him simply not following Sansa’s request to light a candle in the tower. But to go as far as to divulge the old woman who told Sansa “the north remembers” and cause Ramsay to flay her alive? That was one of the worst betrayals ever on Game of Thrones , which is saying something on a show filled with constant maneuvering and backstabbing.

Speaking of backstabbing, Cersei (Lena Headey) isn’t exactly enjoying her time in jail, it seems. And according to Game of Thrones spoilers, the Queen of Mean is going to get a little taste of what it’s like to be roughed up a bit. If Game of Thrones fans have ever fantasized about slapping the smirk off of Cersei’s face, they should enjoy tonight’s episode.

This episode of Game of Thrones also promises to create some new alliances, including expected and not-so-expected ones. The surprising alliance of this episode will be between Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clark), when Dany makes him an adviser, giving her inside knowledge of the Lannisters which may come in handy when she is ready to take on King’s Landing and the Iron Throne. However, Tyrion’s travel companion, Jorah, won’t fare so well.

Jon Snow has been brewing an alliance with the Wildlings, and continues to try to solidify the peace, but suffice it to say that he is proven correct about everyone having a greater enemy in the form of the White Walkers, who finally return tonight. Game of Thrones fans who have seen the episode are hailing it as the best action sequence of the season, although almost anything looks good after the disappointing battle of the Sand Snakes.

Episode 8 of Game of Thrones airs Sunday night on HBO at 9 p.m. ET.
