Game Of Thrones may have ended Season 3 with a bloodbath of major characters being killed off, but fans of the HBO hit don’t have to worry about an early fate for the show itself
This week HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo said the hit show will continue on “as long as there are stories to tell.”
Lombardo said producers for Game Of Thrones have not yet thought about an endpoint for the show. In fact, after the last season ended with a host of major characters being killed off , the show is reloading for its fourth season.
This week producers announced that Roger Ashton-Griffiths will play the role of Mace Tyrell, ending rumors that Sherlock star Mark Gatlilss could earn the part. The British actor has appeared in some other medieval parts in the past, including roles in The Tudors, Henry VIII, and Ivanhoe.
In Game Of Thrones he will play the son of Lady Olenna, father of Loras and Margaery. The role figures to be a major one in Season 4.
Joseph Gatt will also be joining the cast of Game Of Thrones in the upcoming season, though his part is shrouded in a little more mystery. Some insiders speculate that he could play the role of Styr, but there has been no official word from producers.
He has been filming in Iceland, where scenes behind the Wall are typically shot, and will appear in four episodes this upcoming year.
Game Of Thrones actors are also finding the popular series is a good jumping off point for other projects, British actor Elyes Gabel, who played Rakharo on the show, was just cast in Christopher Nolan’s new movie Interstellar. The sci-fi movie also features Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain.
While Game Of Thrones fans may be reassured that the show isn’t going off the air anytime soon, that may not help them out in the short term. The Season 4 premiere is still close to a year away, with an air date of Spring 2014.
