HBO’s Game of Thrones is one of the most popular series on premium television ever to grace the public. However, if you want to know why it is such a great show, just read A Song of Ice and Fire , the book series the show is based on by George R.R. Martin.
Today, George is treating his fans with a teaser chapter in the sixth book in the series, The Winds of Winter . This is a very good tactic for Game of Thrones fans because the release date for The Winds of Winter is till shrouded in mystery, as reported by Hypable . The announcement came when George wrote the following on his “Not A Blog”-blog :
“The time [is] ripe to give my readers another taste of The Winds of Winter .”
The title of the chapter is “Mercy”. Following the previous five books in the series, the chapter is told in the first-person point of view, ergo, the character is identified as “Mercy” – which may simply be a secret nickname just so people don’t know who the character really is.
The new chapter is a third peek into George’s sixth book. George has also read chapters from the sixth installment in A Song of Ice and Fire series at conventions and interviews. Recently, a new Tyrion Lannister chapter was released on the “A World of Ice and Fire” app for iTunes.
To most who watch the show, the newest release of a chapter is probably not a big deal, especially if they don’t read for luxury. It has been reported that the show is going in a different direction than the books, with some good reasoning behind it. First, A Song of Ice of Fire has six installments, but began back in 1996 with its first novel, The Game of Thrones , which the HBO series is named after. A Clash of Kings , the sequel to the first, didn’t come out until four years later (1998). A Storm of Swords was released in 2000, and A Feast of Crows in 2005. Finally, A Dance with Dragons was released in 2011. Then, right after The Winds of Winter , which is still pending a release date, A Dream of Spring is next. George is getting up in age, and there is a concern he won’t be able to keep pace with the show , as reported here on The Inquisitr .
Still, a preview is better than nothing. It shows that George R.R. Martin is working on the series, and he is trying his best to keep up.
If you want to read the preview chapter, follow the link to the chapter right here . However, it will replace the previous teaser chapter, Arianne , as mentioned by Tor .
